How do you know if you need a air pump for fish? I got a fish but I don’t know what kind it is.?

The fish I have is about as round as a silver dollar…maybe a quarter in size…has a black spot on it’s tail….the tail fans out…and has fins underneath close to the back…and of course fins on the side. Can anyone tell me what kind of fish I got here?

Basically all fish need something that aerates the water. Stagnant (still) water doesn’t have enough oxygen in it for fish, and they will slowly suffocate without a filter or air pump or something. Betta fish can survive in stagnant water because they have a special organ that allows them to get oxygen straight from the air.
