How do you remove an impeller from a Hayward 3/4 hp Superflo pump?
Bearings are shot in the motor, need to replace it, and after pulling the 4 motor cover screws that attach to the diverter assembly, I notice there is a spring resistance on the impeller housing. It only moves about 1/2 inch under spring tension. I am unsure how this piece is removed.
You need to stabilize the rotor and remove the impeller counterclockwise.
You can carefully insert a screwdriver through the motor casing at the front against the cooling fin of the rotor that will stop the shaft from turning.
The spring is part of the seal kit that you will need to replace. Take a pic of the seal so you can remember how it goes back on when you replace the bearings (if you are doing this yourself )
If you are not doing this yourself let the folks who are replacing the bearings remove the impeller ……they will also install the new seal.
If you are replacing the entire motor, then you don’t have to be so careful….. but you will need a seal
