How do you set up a hova-bator incubator for ball python eggs?
If you’re asking this, you might not be ready for eggs. Usually you can set it up with a thermostat to regulate the temp. If you are using the thermostat on the hovabator, you’re going to have to set this up well ahead of when the eggs are due to have it stabilized in the temperature. You will set the thermostat by turning the metal piece that is on it. Have a digital thermometer in the egg box inside to measure what the temps are in the box. Continue to dial the thermostat up or down, using perhaps half a turn each time until the temperature is where you want it and stays there. TAPE the thermostat handle down…..I can’t stress this enough……if the handle gets hit, you will end up with a temp spike or a temp drop depending upon which way it goes and then you’re going to have to reset it over again. Might be the difference between dying eggs and living babies. Monitor the temps with the thermometer as the incubation goes along. Remember that eggs will begin to generate heat towards the end of gestation and you might have to adjust the thermostat down if it’s not lowering the temperature properly. Part of the reason I keep the thermometer probe in the egg box and not in the hovabator portion. I don’t generally use a hovabator for anything but cornsnake eggs and now I don’t use it for even that. Ball python eggs are a little more sensitive to temps than most colubrid eggs and I use an incubator I made myself with a high quality thermostat to regulate the temperature.
